Balancing Work-From-Home and Hybrid-Learning Schedules

Image
Hi Mommies! Welcome back to The Mommy At Home Today was a totally chaotic day. As they say, I just for up from the wrong side of the bed; and nothing went as per my regular schedule. It all started with the early morning dairy delivery. My milk packets were torn to bits by a cat, so the entrance to my house was full of milk; no less than 5 kilos of it. After I mopped that up, I came into the kitchen to start the day. While I was filling up the sugar jar, my daughter decided to spook me first thing upon waking. I was not expecting her to wake up that early and thus the sugar packet slipped from my hand and I ended up with a 'Frozen' inspired, sparkly white kitchen floor. I couldn't get angry at my daughter, she looked spooked herself, looking at my expression. So, after cleaning that, I calmed down and told myself to just take a breather and start afresh. Once breakfast was done with smoothly, it was time for my daughter's online classes. Between the whacky internet and...

DIY Workbooks & Reusing Story Books

Hola Mommies !! I woke up to 600+ views on my blog!!! I love reading all the comments and the list of followers. It means a whole lot, so please continue to comment and follow!! Thank you so much for all the support and love. Let the love keep flowing my dear friends!! And now, welcome back to The Mommy At Home.  This post is dedicated to all my mentors who had taken me under their wing, back when I had started teaching in 2012! A Big shout-out to all of them! My first job, where the UN-learning and RE-learning happened.  Since our little ones seem to be stuck at home for a major part of 2021 also, it is our responsibility to expose them to as much educational resources as possible, while keeping the joy of learning intact. At the school campus, their learning would've been scaffolded by field trips and lab activities, etc. Since that isn't happening any time soon, I thought, why not try and create that ambience at home and have fun along the way. So, this post is all ab...

Bringing up Readers for Life

Image
Hey Mommies! Welcome back to The Mommy At Home. It's that time of the year when I try to refresh my daughter's book collection depending upon her current reading level. Between last summer and this one, she has grown to enjoy reading and looks forward to our family reading time. It has almost become like a ritual for all of us sit together for about half an hour with our respective books and read. Apart from the evening ritual, my daughter also likes to pick up a book when she's done studying for the day. I feel that is a much better thing to do than to bounce straight towards the television. Being an English educator, the one question that is posed by parents is how to get children excited about reading or how to develop the love for reading in children. The answer to that - get reading yourselves. Kids are our little monkeys. They'll copy whatever you do! It's that simple. I am an ardent reader anyway so it came about very naturally in my household. But, even if ...

My Spring-Summer Book Haul

Image
Hello to all the beautiful mommies ! Starting off with a very important affirmation - You are doing great, Mommy! Don't you worry about a thing...just carry on with His blessings keeping you warm and fuzzy.💓💛 I'm back today with another post. This time it's a book haul. I'm going to talk about the books that I've been reading these past few months. It has been a journey filled with books of various genres. Some of the books I read were bought almost 2-3 years ago and some are most recent buys. I actually do a book haul when I'm at a book store. I cannot come out with just one book...I mean...it's heaven in there. This year of course, amazon became my official bookstore...boring, I know. There is just something about going to a bookstore, sit on their little poufs, browse through endless books, the smell of fresh books. One day, yes, I'll go back (sigh). I once went to a 'all-you-can-grab' book sale that had taken place under a flyover in Delh...

Art, my Healer

Image
The year 2020 posed to be a tumultuous journey for me not just physically but also emotionally. The pandemic, by the grace of God, didn't enter my home, thanks to the strict protocols set by my husband. Still, being indoors for almost a year and to have then lost a close one, had its own effects. I'm blessed with the most loving and caring family with my husband, father-in-law and daughter. Having said that, one needs their own physical and mental space to heal emotionally or mentally. It is needed to simply unwind and have some time to think about one's own needs and plans. Soon I was beginning the feel the need to vent and just do something other than just the mundane.  Amidst the DIYs and daughter's studies, I couldn't find my own outlet. It kept on building up, until one day, my husband's virtual office decided to conduct one of the many recreational meetings. It was decided there that the team had to take part in an art workshop. They were given funds to pr...

Teaching - Learning Happiness at Home

Image
Hi friends! Welcome back to my blog. If you have kids at home and have been at home during this pandemic, I'm assuming you have been toying with the idea of homeschooling. Homeschooling as a term is different in the current scenario as compared to the "normal" times. "New Normal" requires a revamped "homeschool". I have spent a lot of time trying out different combinations of resources, products and schedules, and failed multiple times. It is only now that I'm finally settling into a schedule that suits my daughter, and it perfectly dovetails into my home routine as well.  Although the idea of homeschooling can be overwhelming, know that you can do it. Learning takes place all the time, and just as your little one learnt to walk and talk with you as their teacher,  they can continue to learn at home in a relaxed, loving environment.  I'm going to share my experiences with you so that you too can pick up what suits you best and embark on the j...

The Lockdown versus our little Busy Bodies

Image
The Lockdown versus our little Busy Bodies   The year 2020 bought families together in an unprecedented way. It was bliss for some and tiresome for the others. Let's be honest, when you have a space constraint, new ideas and ways and activities have to be churned out at lightening speed to keep the little ones busy and effectively engaged. For me it was a whirlwind year with personal and professional changes. I decided to channel my energies to my baby girl as part of my healing process and that is what has now led to this blog. I am writing to you to talk, discover, discuss and share what we mothers can do to remain mentally and physically healthy whilst keeping our children also happy and engaged. I have come up with a series of activities with regards to the blended or hybrid teaching-learning that has become the education model these days. Partly homeschooling and part online schooling, let us make the best of this time and together come up with effective and engaging ways to m...
