Teaching - Learning Happiness at Home
Hi friends! Welcome back to my blog. If you have kids at home and have been at home during this pandemic, I'm assuming you have been toying with the idea of homeschooling. Homeschooling as a term is different in the current scenario as compared to the "normal" times. "New Normal" requires a revamped "homeschool". I have spent a lot of time trying out different combinations of resources, products and schedules, and failed multiple times. It is only now that I'm finally settling into a schedule that suits my daughter, and it perfectly dovetails into my home routine as well.
I'm going to share my experiences with you so that you too can
pick up what suits you best and embark on the journey to teaching your children
at ease without any anxiety. I will share the links of the items that I bought
online to help in my organizing, and share pictures of things I made at home
using material available around the house.
I started off by dedicating one entire folder to my daughter's
study so that I don't have to look at ten different places to figure out what's
in her syllabus for the year. Here is what that looks like now. It has the
subject wise annual syllabus, it has sections for each type of work I want her
to do like literacy, math, arts, Hindi, etc.
In my previous post I had briefly mentioned busy books. This is
what a busy book like. It has around 8-10 strips of paper, which are stapled
together to form a booklet. I dedicate about two strips to each subject. It has
all the concepts that are done in a day or are recurring for the week. It acts
like an exit ticket at the end of the day to check how well my daughter has grasped
the ongoing concepts. Since she does them daily at the end of the day, she
knows that it's play time after this and I know what to plan for the next day
based on how she does in the busy book.
Rewards are part of the whole teaching-learning process. But, at the same time I don’t believe in giving out unnecessary sugary treats. Instead my daughter loves stickers. I had used them long back to potty-train her and since then I have to make sure that I have my stock ready when needed. These are the sticker books/sheets that I have been using. I’m no saint though, both of us are known to binge on a homemade cupcake every now and then.
Activities play a big role when it comes to small children. Honestly, I didn’t know where to start. It is easy to spend a bucket load of money and get ready to use material. But when that’s not an option, we need to use a bucket load of imagination and recycle whatever is available to make things interesting. Trust me, it has been worth it in the end. I actually ended up spending more time with my daughter and that time was filled with more conversations, learnings and well, love and laughter. I don’t think I used any material that’s too complicated. It has been things like cardboard, craft paper, A4 paper, crayons, paints and just regular stationery.
You can find my busy-book printable and other homeschool fun academic worksheets on my TpT Store. Click here for that.
Here's my resource list covering all that I’ve shared above.
1. Craft Kit
2. Colour Pens
Let me know if you'd like to know more about any of my resources mentioned in the blog!
I'll be sharing my book haul list in the upcoming blog. So watch this space for more.

Trust that you are the best teacher your child
ever needs and I hope this post encourages you to take up some fun activities and academics with your little bundle of energy!
Stay Safe, Stay Blessed
xoxo
