My Spring-Summer Book Haul
Hello to all the beautiful mommies !
Starting off with a very important affirmation - You are doing great, Mommy! Don't you worry about a thing...just carry on with His blessings keeping you warm and fuzzy.💓💛
I'm back today with another post. This time it's a book haul. I'm going to talk about the books that I've been reading these past few months. It has been a journey filled with books of various genres. Some of the books I read were bought almost 2-3 years ago and some are most recent buys. I actually do a book haul when I'm at a book store. I cannot come out with just one book...I mean...it's heaven in there. This year of course, amazon became my official bookstore...boring, I know. There is just something about going to a bookstore, sit on their little poufs, browse through endless books, the smell of fresh books. One day, yes, I'll go back (sigh).
I once went to a 'all-you-can-grab' book sale that had taken place under a flyover in Delhi. It was quite an experience. My friend and I were there even before those chaps had opened up. It was a lovely crisp February Sunday morning and I couldn't have asked for a better start to a day than be immersed in rows upon rows of books. That place was as big as a marriage hall. It could easily fit about 200-300 people in there. They had a simple system - buy a cardboard box (available in three sizes) and fill as many books as you can as long as the box can be comfortably closed up. It was a grand loot! I of course got two large boxes, one filled with books for me and the other for my daughter.
Anyway, going back to the books now. Will share links to buy the books along the way.
Austinistan, Edited by Laleen Sukhera
This was fun weekend read. Of course there is no need to compare this to the original Austen Works. Just enjoy the similarities in the Indian-Pakistani context.
The Penelopiad by Margaret Attwood
“Which of us can resist the temptation of being thought indispensable?”
The Perfect Gift by Emma Hannigan
This is the perfect summer read, this beautiful, moving novel of mothers and daughters and the secrets they share will fill hearts with love and light.
It Ends With Us by Coleen Hoover
“Cycles exist because they are excruciating to break. It takes an astronomical amount of pain and courage to disrupt a familiar pattern. Sometimes it seems easier to just keep running in the same familiar circles, rather than facing the fear of jumping and possibly not landing on your feet.
My mother went through it.
I went through it.
I'll be damned if I allow my daughter to go through it.
I kiss her on the forehead and make her a promise. "It stops here. With me and you. It ends with us.”
Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
“Racism should never have happened and so you don't get a cookie for reducing it.”
Message In A Bottle by Nicholas Sparks
“Without you in my arms, I feel an emptiness in my soul. I find myself searching the crowds for your face - I know it's an impossibility, but I cannot help myself.”
One Hundered Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
“He dug so deeply into her sentiments that in search of interest he found love, because by trying to make her love him he ended up falling in love with her."
Until next time, Happy Reading !
